Hey-a guys! So today I thought that I’d do something very different. Today I’m doing three different mini reviews. They’re all kind of random … except that I hadn’t reviewed these, and I read them last year.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (#1 in The Hunger Games trilogy):
I had watched the movies a year before reading this book – and I loved it. So needless to say, I was quite nervous to watch this. But I told my sister that I would read this before the New Year, and then Christmas. So I did, and I LOVED IT. Like, I’d heard that it was good, but I didn’t have too high of hopes…
Firstly, Katniss is SUPER introverted. Like, the whole book is in her head. And than Peeta is just ADORABLE. ❤ Gale is great for Katniss – as a friend. And Haymitch and Effie were just great … especially when they were practically killing each other.
Something that I didn’t like, that for this violent of a YA book, the violence/gore was skimmed over like crazy. And while that makes it appropriate for slightly younger audiences (maybe younger teenagers), the concept is still very awful and horrific.
Anyways. I’m reading the second book AND IT’S AMAZING.

Destroy by Tricia Mingerink (#3.5 in The Blades of Acktar series)
**Spoilers for the rest of The Blades of Acktar series**
I wasn’t sure how I’d like this book – since it’s an in-between-er and not about Renna & Leith – but I was quite happily surprised!
You have a huge redemption thing urging along the plot, which made me kind of think that it would be like the other books – just with Keevan instead of Leith, but it wasn’t, which was nice. Keevan really struggles with some things that he’d done as a no-consequences prince. The only thing that I really didn’t like about that whole story line aspect was that I felt that he saw the errors of his ways a little TOO quickly (but I suppose that you had to shorten things since it WAS a novella).
Anyways. I was also quite thrilled that the romance wasn’t EXACTLY like Renna & Leith, though you could definitely see parallels. The romance between Keevan and Addie was quite adorable, really. Especially when you got Addie’s elder three brothers (and a younger one) involved… Nothing past kissing, really (though at the beginning there are mentions of how Keevan had forced some maids into kissing him), and it’s quite sweet. And I was quite happy that I liked Keevan and Addie together, since I didn’t really like either of them at the beginning (though I liked Keevan in book #3).
It was cool seeing main plot points from other books such as the night (or, nights) of the assassins, or when Leith arrived to Eagle Heights, the battle, etc. But, of course, with that comes major time jumps (there were quite a few of year/two year jumps of time), but I think that it just fit with the book.
Anyways, this was quite a nice book and definitely helped stall the anxious waiting for the four and final Acktar book.
3.5 Stars

On the Day of Silence by Kaitlyn Deann
This is a short story by the lovely author Kaitlyn Deann (the story is free on her website right HERE). I had read her book, The Witches’ Sleep, and I found it really enjoyable.
So anyways, I had a free afternoon, and this was only twenty pages, so I thought what the heck? This is written in a lyrical/poem-y style, that I had never read before. So, it was an interesting experience.
I didn’t necessarily love the way that it was written, but like I said, it was a new experience. The story was kinda nice, a lone girl and a unicorn. Actually, it was very sweet. ❤
At one point (though it was very brief, since it WAS a twenty paged book) it was hard to follow along the story. And since there was no dialogue, it was very short, and the style that it was written in. But you could still … somehow feel a connection with our MC.
OMG THE HUNGER GAMES! Definitely one of my favorite books of all time, and probably the reason I started reading YA in the first place. I completely agree – Peeta is such so sweet and Gale is such a loyal friend to Katniss. I can’t wait to see what you think of Catching Fire and Mockingjay! Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous reviews! ❤

I loved Catching Fire – it quite competes with THG for being my favorite in the trilogy so far!!! And I’m reading Mockingjay right now. It’s just … so realistic and raw and I LOVE IT, OH MY GOODNESS.
Thank you so much, Zoe!! ❤

Now I have a strong urge to read the Hunger Games, but I must restrain myself before my TBR implodes onto my small head. But I will try. New Year’s resolution maybe.
